It’s a bit of a cross between Inkscape and Blender, with a lot to do with Maurycy being a heavy user of both, professionally. Just a few examples:

Enve is divided into two parts: the enve core library, and the program itself. The core library contains most of the supported code. This program, on the other hand, compiles part of the core library and is responsible for the GUI.

The core library can be used by users to create their own C++ effects. These include effects that affect pixels (raster effects) and effects that affect shape (path effects). All they do is subclass the relevant classes from the core library, compile their effects, copy the resulting *.so file into their enve directory, and they can see the effects in the enve context menu, ready to use.
The core library contains animation properties (float, integer, color, path, etc.) that you can set to your effects using just a few lines of code. Enve handles everything from the GUI to the storage for all the assets and effects themselves.
There is also a special type of raster effect called a tint effect. Shader effects do not need to be compiled. All (direct) properties for the shadow effect can be defined in an XML-based file. The property value is passed via enve to a user-defined GLSL-based fragment shader to be used when applying the effect. From the user’s point of view, shadow effects are indistinguishable from precompiled raster effects in C++, but they are more suitable for simple effects, and can only be processed by the GPU.
Currently, continuous builds are not shipped with the plugin development kit. Code changes quickly, meaning that compiled user-created plugins need to be recompiled and modified frequently. An ongoing effort is to perform a major code cleanup, focusing on the core library, to make it more suitable for long-term user-generated plugins.

In terms of UX, mixing Inkscape and Blender is not a bad idea, but some things are unclear. I discovered the S and R (scale, rotate) shortcuts by accident, and I wasn’t smart enough to discover G (move) despite the obvious Blender-like interaction. The application will also benefit from a context-sensitive toolbar for tool settings, which Maurycy has enabled. e.g. A recent commit added a button to the toolbar to control brush size, it only appears when you select a brush.
Workflow, some missing features are smoothing feature (only Bezier based interpolation available) and undo/redo support. Both are on the priority list though.
In general, I can say that it is difficult and, frankly, not necessary to hate a program that works well for the alpha development stage, has a nice design and makes it easy for people to get started.
