Android Root Hack Application
For all of Android’s flexibility and customization, carriers and phone manufacturers still manage to lock down many restrictions, skins, and preloaded software they don’t want.

There’s nothing wrong with most out-of-the-box experiences, but more adventurous and tech-savvy users who are tired of carrier and phone manufacturer support may be interested in taking their Android devices to new limits and rooting.
From the early days of the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream), rooting can add functionality to a phone and often extend the life of the device. For example, the T-Mobile G1 is officially supported with Android 1.6 Donut, but if you’ve rooted the phone, you can download an alternative developer version of the operating system that offers many of the features of Android 2.2 Froyo.
I will share some benefits and risks of rooting, where to find a good stock Android OS and some other tips. If you have your own ideas that we haven’t covered here, please add them in the comments below.
Simply put, rooting is a process that gives users full administrator control and access to their Android smartphone or tablet. Like “jailbreaking” an iOS device, this is often done to bypass carrier or phone manufacturer restrictions or limitations. Once you gain root access, you can replace or modify apps and system settings, run custom apps, and more.

One of the more common reasons to root a phone is to replace the operating system with a ROM, another developer version of the operating system that has more control over the details. In the root culture, we will call it “flashing a custom ROM”.
The process of rooting an Android phone varies from device to device, but it seems to have been sorted out over time. Google’s Nexus phone line, like the LG-made Nexus 4, appeals to developers and tech types and is among the most established models. With that in mind, you’ll find that popular devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One have plenty of ROMs to choose from.
Rooting will void your device’s warranty; But flashing a stock ROM can restore it to its original state.
There are several reasons why you should consider rooting your Android phone, some more obvious than others. Its main advantage is the ability to remove all unwanted apps and games that your carrier or phone manufacturer installs before you unlock your phone. Instead of uninstalling many of these software titles, as you can often do on Android, rooting can completely remove them for you. Deleting apps you’ll never use can also free up extra storage space.

Another major benefit of rooting is that it allows for faster platform updates. It may take weeks, months or longer for Google to announce a new version of Android for your device. After rooting, you can often get new platform features through new ROMs. This can add years of life to their Android phone for some users – they can flash a new ROM instead of buying a new phone.
Other reasons to root a phone are to perform full device backups, to integrate tethering and mobile hotspots, and to extend the device’s battery life with new settings and controls.
As I mentioned above, rooting your device can void your warranty. This is the biggest risk associated with playing with the phone. If you have root problems and flash a custom ROM, the manufacturer and operator will not help you.
In most cases, you can flash any ROM and return to your phone’s Android OS as easily as installing a new ROM for the first time. But be careful: if you’re not careful or don’t follow the steps correctly, you’ll end up with a glorious paperweight. Yes, I’m talking about “brick” your device. Be careful and be aware of what you are doing when trying to root your phone.

Stick to more reputable sources for help and feedback, and check for the latest news on ROMs and your specific Android device. So you need to make sure you read everything before starting down this path. If you are on a forum thread, check the responses to see if there are any bugs or issues with your particular phone.
I would recommend XDA Developers, AndroidCentral forums, Androidforums and Rootzwiki first for rooting help. I also recommend checking out Google+ as a great source for rooting and changing news and trends. The root scene is not a secret underground fight club; You will find plenty of documented help to root your phone. Filter your results for you, read the details and understand what to do.
For all practical purposes, (custom) ROMs are firmware replacements for Android devices that provide features or capabilities not found in the OS experience. There are more than a few ROMs to consider, often built from official Android files or kernel source code. Some of the most popular custom ROMs include CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, MIUI, and AOKP (Android Open Kang Project). Of course, there are many more to check out, and more arriving almost every day.
In terms of pure support and development, CyanogenMod is the clear leader in this field. The number of supported devices is unmatched and the community has been flocking to this ROM for a long time. This is not necessarily the “best” ROM; beauty depends on the eyes that see.

Similar to stock Android, CyanogenMod is known for introducing features that eventually end up in official versions of Android. CyanogenMod currently has over 4.2 million active installations, the latest being v10.1 (based on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean).
One feature worth noting is Run in incognito mode, which allows you to use an app privately and manage its permissions. Instead of installing an app and accepting all permissions, this mode allows you to restrict data to specific apps. In theory, a certain app can use GPS, access contacts, etc. you can deny it.
While CyanogenMod received a lot of fanfare in the early days of Android, Paranoid Android has gained popularity recently. In fact, when it is released as an open source project in the near future, we could see faster speeds than stock ROMs.
Among other features, Paranoid Android’s HALO ROM lets users mix Facebook’s Chat Head with Samsung’s multi-window functionality. Floating, circular notifications can be placed anywhere on the left or right side of the screen and work with a variety of apps. This handy feature notifies you of Gmail, Hangouts, Google Now and other network notifications.

Forums will be a good place to connect, but major ROM developers will offer their own sites. Apart from the custom ROMs mentioned above, others that have a strong following are: SynergyROM, Slim Bean, LiquidSmooth, RevoltROM and Xylon. Be warned: Talking about ROMs can often lead to heated arguments about which one is better or offers more features.
In addition to installing custom ROMs, rooting your phone opens the door to installing new apps and unlocks device management and security features beyond the standard Android OS experience.
If you decide not to flash a new ROM, you can install apps that add new levels of functionality to your rooted Android phone. Some of the more popular names today include ROM Toolbox Pro, Titanium Backup, Touch Control, Cerberus Anti-Theft, and SetCPU. The appeal of each varies depending on how much you want to customize your Android experience.
For those who plan to flash ROMs regularly, I recommend starting with ROM Manager. This tool allows you to manage and restore backups, install ROMs and other useful features. Although it is available as a free app, the premium client has ROM update notifications, nightly ROM downloads, automatic backups and other features.

When it comes to rooting your phone, it’s always good to have backup plans in place. After all, if you run into problems with an untested or experimental ROM, you need something to fall back on. While Titanium stock seems to be the most popular, Carbon has gained a number of fans. Whichever route you go, it’s important to back up and test before using a stock ROM.
