The short answer is: Yes, Grab and Gojek are allowed in Canggu and work 95% of the time. Technically, there is only one official no-gojek zone, where neither griffins nor gojeks are allowed. Alternatively, you can use both apps for free for food transportation or delivery. This also applies to areas close to Canggu such as Pererenan, Babakan, Tumbak Baju or Padonan (which some still refer to as Canggu).
Be sure to grab a Gojek as soon as you arrive at the Bali airport (although cheap airport photos are available). You will most likely use them daily during your stay in Canggu, especially since the area is not very accessible.
Why don’t apps like Grab and Gojek work everywhere? The main area in Canggu where Grab and Gojek do not work is Jalan Pantai Batu Mejan, also known as Echo Beach Street. It is home to one of the most famous beach clubs in Canggu, La Brisa, and there are also several tourist souvenir markets here.
Echo Beach is a Gojek-free zone, completely controlled by the taxi mafia and pickup and drop-off are prohibited. You will see them sitting in a small booth at the top of the road, making sure unknown drivers don’t enter. They also start wearing green jackets that strongly resemble Grabs and Gojeks, which is even more confusing.
La Brisa, located down the street, has been trying to improve delivery options for its customers for years, but the changes have been minimal. They now offer a golf cart shuttle service that takes tourists to Deus Ex Machina for a chance to make a catch.

This area of Canggu has some great co-working spaces and vegan restaurants nearby, so be sure to check them out while you’re there.
The extent of the Gojek-free zone shifts from time to time by about 100 meters and then decreases again. Unfortunately, if you want to get to Jalan Pantai Batu Mejan Beach, options are limited. You can drive yourself, use a private driver (hired for a day) or a mafia taxi.
You can also walk, which is not very pleasant as there are no footpaths, but it is not far (about 10 minutes). Or you can go to Batu Bolong Beach and walk along the beach.
