Blood Donor Application – Following the disruption caused by the coronavirus, blood donors have become harder to find and emergency calls have increased by more than 30%.
Our team recognized the urgent need for a solution to facilitate voluntary, anonymous and safe blood donation. We have worked together with the Bulgarian Voluntary Blood Donation Organization (BOVBD) to develop a new and improved version of the “Darri Crъв” (blood donation) app.
Blood Donor Application
The application aims to facilitate communication between voluntary blood donors and people in need of blood transfusions and is available completely free of charge across the country.

We’re excited to have recently reached a milestone in our partnership with the American Red Cross: a suite of apps we’ve created for charities over the years have been downloaded 13 million times. One app in particular, Blood Donor, has been a huge success and has reached its milestone. It’s an app that saved lives, changed the industry, and gave the team a great sense of accomplishment. Here is the story of a blood donor…
Blood Donation App
When the American Red Cross approached the Trilateral Cube in early 2014, they were looking for a solution to the massive drain of blood donors in the United States.
They wanted to develop a mobile application that could serve as a booking system that would encourage, motivate and engage potential and existing blood donors to save lives across the country.
With blood bank supplies dwindling and our outreach program somewhat outdated, we needed to provide the American Red Cross with the means to continue the great work it has done so far.
We’ve developed an innovative mobile solution that has won numerous international awards, including a Webby Award for Best Health App, but more importantly, we’ve helped charities generate over $70 million in revenue.
Red Cross Launches New Blood Donor App
Working with the American Red Cross, we realized that some of the obstacles could be overcome. Potential donors, especially the youth sector, did not engage with existing marketing literature, appointments were forgotten, canceled or ignored, and after the first donation, they did not return again.
The mobile phone was identified as a relatively untapped resource to help change the behavior of potential and current donors, so the Blood Donor Program was developed and launched in September 2015.
The main goal was to make blood donation practical for the user. The easier it is to schedule or reschedule appointments, the more likely donors are to reserve their spot at the nearest blood drive. Appointment reminder notifications indicate how likely they are to be seen, and geo-targeted low blood alerts let users know if their blood type is in particular demand nearby.
But it’s not just logistics that Bloddonor helps with, it works on a reward basis to encourage repeat visits and donations. Users can earn badges to proudly share their achievements with friends and family, as well as claim rewards from special retailers for their efforts.
Red Cross Launches New Blood Donor App
One of the most interesting features is undoubtedly the blood journey. Donors can track their blood and see which hospital it goes to and when it arrives. Achieving this level of detail is great and can encourage donors to follow through because they can appreciate the life you’re saving without knowing where it’s going after packing, and they’ll be holding the cake.
The wide range of features and, ultimately, the simplicity of the application have made Blood Donor the success story it is today. With over a million downloads and nearly 470,000 donations as a result, it means 1.5 million lives could be saved. The application has also increased the viewing speed. Before the app, just over half (57%) of appointments would be filled, but now with blood donors, that percentage has risen to 83%.
We’re proud to see the level of success we’ve achieved with this app, and it’s even more satisfying knowing we’ve helped save lives across North America. We hope that the numbers will continue to grow and blood donors will help the American Red Cross in its mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering.

But the blood supply is not always high enough, especially in winter, when some donations are reduced due to holidays and bad weather. According to the American Red Cross, which is responsible for 40% of the nation’s blood supply, only 3% of the population donates blood each year.
If you’ve wanted to donate blood but haven’t, try the Red Cross Blood Donor app. The app is available for iPhone and Android devices and makes the process convenient.
Helps you find places to donate and make appointments. It also keeps track of your blood donations so you know how many you have donated and when you need to donate again. The app sends shortage alerts so you can donate blood when you need it. It also allows you to attract new blood donors, create a team of your friends and track your overall donation.

Another advantage: The application can save up to 15 minutes when donating using the RapidPass e-survey, which reduces waiting time at the donation center.
