In a few steps, you can adjust your Windows 10 screen brightness to a more comfortable setting — then change it back if you decide you like the old settings better. Here’s how to do it.

1. On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click the Action Center icon, which should be the farthest icon on the right and look like a square speech bubble.

2. Under the pop-up menu, use the brightness lever to adjust the screen brightness by moving the bar back and forth to the desired setting.
Note that if the brightness bar is not immediately visible, you may need to click Expand at the bottom left of the pop-up menu to make it visible. Then configure as usual.
In some cases, there may even be just a box that says brightness. Clicking this will cycle through the preset brightness settings: 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%.

To change the screen brightness, click the notification icon on the right side of the taskbar. You will have access to a slider with which you can increase and decrease the brightness of your screen.
There are many ways to get there. One is to right-click on the battery meter and select Windows Mobility Center. The second is to right-click the Start menu (Windows logo) and then select Mobility Center.

The most common keyboard shortcut combinations are function key (fn) + assigned key to decrease or increase brightness.
Apart from the 5 methods I shared above, you can also adjust the brightness automatically according to the ambient brightness, but not all Windows 10 PCs can do this.

Modern flyouts let you replace the old volume/brightness sliders and media controls, as well as enable notifications for lock keys (numbers, caps and scroll). Media controls and lock key support provide a better experience than Windows 11, as the latter only has media controls on the lock screen and notification center.
Apart from giving Windows 10 a better look, Modern Flyouts offers various customization options. You can set light or dark themes, personalize media controls with album art, turn individual elements on or off, and rotate charts around the screen. Windows 11 doesn’t allow resetting volume/brightness parameters, so the app gets an extra point.
It’s worth noting that Modern Flyouts is still in preview (though it’s far from a new app), so you may run into the occasional bug. However, before upgrading from Windows 10 to 11, the app was in my default apps list, and I don’t recall experiencing any stop-contract errors.
