Screen capture apps record what’s happening on your screen, including your cursor movements, so you can give instructions, describe problems, or share knowledge. Writing a description of these things takes longer than showing someone your screen, but you’re usually not standing next to the person or people who need to see your screen. Video capture applications solve this problem.

All of our best app collections are written by people who have spent most of their careers using, testing, and writing software. We spend dozens of hours researching and testing apps, using each app for its intended use and evaluating it against the criteria we set for the category. We are never paid to post our articles from any app or link to any site – we value our readers’ trust in providing authentic reviews of the categories and apps we review. To learn more about our process, read our full blog post on how we select featured apps.
Vidyo, A Screen Recorder For Ios
The best screen capture software makes it very easy to show how things work or, if you’re filing a support ticket, how they don’t work. But different people are looking for different things. In our research, we tested dozens of applications, from minimal three-button windows to complex applications loaded with tools. Options range from free to several hundred dollars. Each of our picks for the best screen recorder apps offers a unique feature, but they all meet a few key criteria:
Of course, the process does not end with screen recording. The quality of the final product can make or break user engagement, so we also looked into post-shoot editing features.
One thing to be aware of: the app you’re already using might have screen recording built-in. Many video conferencing, communication and productivity tools, including your mobile phone, have added screen recording to their feature set, so it’s worth checking out. You can get the capabilities you need from a tool already in your stack.
If you want to quickly record something and share a link, try Loom. Loom isn’t too complicated when it comes to recording: you can choose to record just your screen, your screen with webcam video, or just your webcam. Once you’re done, your video will be uploaded to Loom. If you want, you can do some basic editing in the browser or copy the link to share the video. All of this is very fast, making it the best screen recorder for PC overall.
Best Free Apps To Record Iphone Screen
With the free version of Loom, you can save up to 25 videos every five minutes. It’s limited, obviously, but great for quickly showing something to a colleague, colleague, and/or archenemy. And if you’re getting close to that 25 video limit, you can always download your videos and save them elsewhere.
That said, the loom is not perfect. The desktop app works well, but we found the mobile app confusingly limited. For example, the Android version requires users to enter their Google password to sign in instead of using Android’s built-in support for Google Accounts, which is awkward. iPhone and iPad apps cannot attach video to screenshots.
Price: Free for 25 videos of up to five minutes. Business plans start at $12.50 per month with unlimited downloads.
Dropbox Capture (which has been in beta for a while) is a solid alternative to Loom, so if you’re already paying for Dropbox and need an app to record your screen, check it out. Or if you prefer Chrome extensions for desktop apps, check out ScreenCastify, which is similar to Loom.
Best Android Apps For Screen Recording And Other Ways Too
The Camtasia video capture interface is simple and no-nonsense. To include or exclude webcam and microphone inputs, you select the capture area and click Record.
Its built-in video editor is another story. There’s a whole list of editing options that don’t seem overwhelming. A nice selection of click-and-drag effects and stock tools are on the left side of the app, while detailed features and settings appear on the right side when you select an item from the timeline.
Camtasia offers excellent tutorial videos for anyone struggling with their editing tools. It took seconds to create incredibly professional intro and outro segments and put them into our test videos. Our only hiccup was the interactive features that let you add quizzes or clickable buttons to your project. These components were easy to set up, but after adding interactivity, previewing the video and exporting the final product became more complicated.
This is the only app I’ve tested with a closed captioning tool that rotates the audio while adding text. A four-second segment plays until you finish recording, and then you can click

Note: If you don’t need editing, but like the look of Camtasia, Capture (formerly King) comes from the same company, offers only screen recording, and is free to download and use.
OBS is a screen recording application designed primarily with live streaming in mind — if you’ve ever watched someone gaming on Twitch, for example, they’ve used OBS. But you can also use it to record video (the most powerful tool for doing so), and it’s free, so it’s a great choice if you’re looking for Camtasia alternatives.
Most of the apps on this list allow you to record using your webcam and display. OBS Studio can handle a lot more than that. It’s a complete broadcast tool, meaning you can add as many displays and cameras as your computer can handle. You can also create custom “studios”, preset audio and video configurations that you can cycle through while recording.
During testing, we created three studios (shown above): one for the primary display and webcam only, one for the secondary display and webcam, and a third for both the display and webcam. Resizing and positioning components in each studio is a simple click-and-drag process, and scrolling through them during a recording session is controlled by hotkeys.

With enough preparation, these audio and video settings eliminate the need to worry about any settings while streaming live video through OBS’s robust integration. The live streaming menu includes 80 platforms, ranging from major sites like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitch to obscure streaming platforms like Pandora TV. Opening the settings menu and placing the streaming key in the text field is enough to configure the Start Streaming button with one click on the main control panel. Changes made in the studio, such as audio mixing or webcam placement, are broadcast live — make sure you’re prepared.
Movavi Screen Recorder is an excellent mid-range screen recorder for PC, complete with an excellent OBS alternative, built-in editor that gets the job done. But there is one feature it does very well: scheduled shooting.
This tool allows you to record webinars or live streams when you are away from your desktop. You will find this feature in Settings under Scheduler. You can set a time limit for the next recording or you can set a recording start and end time. You can also set it so that your computer shuts down or goes to sleep after the capture is complete.
It’s comfortable and clear, made even better by Movavi’s above-average resolution settings. If you need to record a webinar at an inconvenient time to share with others, you want it to sound good.
How To Record Screen On Chromebook With Audio Free Of Cost?
Movavi Price: $57.95 for one computer lifetime license. There’s a free version, but it adds a big ugly watermark to the center of each video, so it’s only useful for getting a feel for the software.
Sometimes you want to quickly record and send it to someone without editing anything or messing with a lot of settings. Zappy is perfect for this. This application is launched using a keyboard shortcut or menu bar icon. Select the part of the screen you want to record, click the Video Camera button, and when you’re done, click the Stop button. You can record audio with your microphone if you want, and you have the option to record your face on the webcam.
