What Is Mendeley Application – Mdeley is a reference management software founded in 2007 by PhD students Paul Foeckler, Victor Hning and Jan Reichelt and acquired by the Dutch academic publisher Elsevier in 2013. It is used to manage and share research articles and to create bibliographies for scientific articles.

Mendeley Reference Manager
Mdeley was acquired by scientific publisher Elsevier in early 2013. The price of the deal was speculated to be €50 million (US$65 million).

Introducing Mendeley Reference Manager
On January 12, 2015, Mdeley announced the acquisition of Newsflo, a service that provided links to press coverage of researchers’ work.
In April 2016, Mdeley Data, a platform for sharing citable research datasets online, was promoted from beta.
On March 15, 2021, the Mdeley mobile app was removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play, leaving the only way to access the services through the website or through the Mdeley Reference Manager (desktop app).
In September 2022, Elsevier stopped downloading the older “Mdeley Desktop” application as part of a transition to the new web-based solution (still accessible from the desktop with the more correct “Mdeley Reference Manager”). The company plans to permanently stop logging into “Mdeley Desktop” in the longer term.
Thoughts On Reference Management Software
Mdeley is based on a web service for which you must first create a personal account on the Mdeley website. On the local computer side it works together with a word processor plugin, or a plug-in (mandatory), and a desktop application (now optional for the latest current version).
The new “Mdeley Reference Manager Library” is cloud-based. On September 7, 2020, it replaced the previous “Mdeley Web Library”. This ensures that the latest changes are always saved to the cloud and that credentials are accessible across multiple devices.

While the legacy “Mdeley Desktop” is still active, it must be used in conjunction with the older “Cite-O-Matic” Word plugin.
