WPAP is a geometric pop art style inspired by cubism that has been around the internet for quite some time. Popularized in the late 1990s by an Indonesian artist

Choose any picture image that tickles your fancy. The image you choose should have well-defined tones and clarity. Usually, the stronger the contrast, the more dramatic the finished piece. We’ll use Captain Kirk as an example.

Create a new Illustrator document with canvas dimensions that match your image. It will be a vector piece, so scaling it up or down in the future won’t be a problem.

Place the image on a single layer in the document. Double-click the layer and set it to Templatelayer (the default Dim Image at 50% Opacity is fine). Creating a model layer will be important later when you start coloring because it will still allow you to see the image when using outline mode. You can also name the layer “Photo” (always name your layers 😉).

Create a new layer above the image layer; this is where most of your art will take place. Draw a large empty rectangle with a 1pt border around the edges of the artboard. This box will provide a useful border that contains areas of color when you start. Turn on Smart Guides if they aren’t already (Ctrl+U or ⌘+U) to help with line placement accuracy in the next step.

About Wedha Pop Art Portrait(wpap)

WPAP line work is traditionally straight and not bent, so posterization or live viewing is fine. The idea is to use straight lines to create structure, movement and interest. There’s no real shortcut to creating lines and geometry, and you don’t want to leave that creative decision up to robots.

Using the Pen Tool, create a 1 point line to define all areas where the tone has changed. No need to worry about closed paths, layers of shapes or overlapping objects – it’s okay to be messy. Don’t be afraid to create large lines that cross the entire composition, and use more detailed lines in areas such as the eyes, ears, and mouth. The lines that extend to the edge of the artboard should intersect or overlap the large rectangular board.

Eyes, ears, and often lips usually have more detail. A little light visible to the eye is placed on the top layer at the very end (called “catchlight”) and gives the eyes a more realistic appearance.

Notice how the phaser lines (shown in red) move to the edge and the background has the appearance of cracked and broken glass. It should look good after we put some colors.

If you’re feeling particularly mischievous, add a sharp background element to the composition; basic lines, simple shapes, spirals, capital letters, etc. Additional lines and shapes will create an interesting foreground-background interaction. You can see how the phaser and background beam create a clustering pattern that breaks up the image.

You can always adjust your lines later to balance things out or add more detail, even after coloring. Too many lines is better than not enough because other areas can be filled with the same color.

An improvement over the widely used – and very annoying – “draw a polygon, overlap and connect other shapes, fill with color, layer up or down, rinse and repeat

All WPAP images have a similar palette consisting of seven colors, each with approximately 10 tones. To begin with, we will create a ten-step palette of shades of gray.

Create 10 filled squares in a row, starting with a very light gray (almost white) and filling each with progressively darker shades of gray. The final color should be dark gray (almost black).

Do this for all primary colors: yellow, orange, red, purple, green, and blue. The first color in each row is always a very light shade (almost white) and the last color in each row is always a very dark shade (almost black).

Let’s import them into your sample library. Select each set of colors one row at a time and add them to the swatch panel as a new color group by clicking the small folder icon in the swatch panel. Name the group whatever you want and make sure you set it as Convert Process to Global. A folder is created for the color row.

It is important that the samples move from light to dark in a similar way for all color groups. This will make the color faster. And if you set them as global, it’s painless to change the color if you’re not happy with some of your color choices.

Once all the line work is done and you’re happy with the gaps, it’s time to start coloring. You remember it from elementary school—not much has changed—except this time you use Illustrator’s Live Paint Bucket tool to quickly fill in between the lines.

Select all the lines, including the bounding rectangle, and pick the Vivid Bucket Tool (K). When you move the mouse over the selected lines, the cursor displays previews and text

Once you’ve created a group of vibrant colors, hover over everything and explore a bit. You’ll notice that each area of your art will be highlighted when hovered over. The vivid color container determines which areas can be filled based on your line work. Feel free to delete everything (Ctrl+Shift+A or ⌘+Shift+A), the artwork doesn’t need to be “selected” for the vivid color container to work.

With the Live Color Bucket tool active, select a color from the palette using the arrow keys on your keyboard, then click on the area you want to fill. Because the color swatches are set in a specific order, navigating the palette using the arrows is a breeze – it’s easy to move shades up or down and lighten or darken.

You fill each region with a similar tone from the samples. Use the highlight and shadow areas from the source image to determine how light or dark the color selection should be. It really doesn’t matter what color you choose; as long as the overall tone is similar and if the lights and shadows are respected.

Clicking and dragging can be used to fill large areas as needed. You can also fill an area with no color to make it transparent again, or even ALT + click (eyedropper) to select an existing color.

Since most of the original image is covered with paint, you may lose part of it or have to go back to the repaint section. Don’t worry, switch to Outlines (Ctrl+Y or ⌘+Y) to hide all color fills to see the reference image below. Since the reference image is on the template layer, it remains visible even in outline mode. Press Ctrl + Y to return to the GPU preview.

When you’re done filling in the areas, see how everything looks without the outlines. Select the Live Paint Group and set the outline to nothing.

You are beautiful? Do you see any areas that you might want to elaborate on? Double-click the Live Paint Group to unlink it. When the top of the window says you’re in the Live Paint Group, you know you’re in the right place.

Use the direct selection tool to move lines and points and change color boundaries; you can see that the color palette does a good job of adapting to these changes. You can also add more lines in the Live Paint group to create new borders and more detail.

That’s all you need to complete your own WPAP. With just a reference photo and lots of lines, creating your own pop art photo is quick and painless. Let me know if this tutorial helped you, and be sure to check out the Twitch live stream to watch me work on designs like this (and more). WPAP or Wedha’s Pop Art Portrait is a style of depicting a human portrait dominated by flat areas of strong foreground (known as a flowery box portrait), center and back to create dimensions, consisting of a bold imaginary line where the shape of the face, position of surface elements and proportions remain the same as the original image with a creative tracking process that is not 100 percent subject to the tracked.

Unique is the process of finding this graphic illustration, in the creation of illustrated images, Wheda with original image references with a high degree of difficulty, especially in terms of appropriateness of skin tone and smoothness of scratches. To overcome this, he began to create solid design lines that were then filled with color. It becomes easier and any image display is easily recognizable as who or what character. At first, Wedha had no idea that the technique he created had artistic value,
